ISLAMABAD: The court rejected bail application of former minister for religious affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi in the Hajj scam case after lawyer of the federation and Additional Attorney General Karim Khan Agha opposed the plea, Express 24/7 reported Tuesday.
The court rejected the bail plea on grounds that Kazmi is involved in the scam. Kazmi had applied for bail along with joint secretary Raja Aftabul Islam.
Kazmi had argued that the challan submitted before the court trial was incomplete and he should be released.
The two-member bench, consisting Justice Jawad A khwaja and Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani headed the hearing.
Kazmi had earlier denied any links with another accused in the case, Ahmed Faiz who reportedly rented the accommodation building at exorbitant rates for the Hajj pilgrims. Kazmi had also reportedly sought an official passport for Faiz. However, the additional AG was surprised when the federation produced photographs of Kazmi and Faiz meeting.
The two-member bench, after hearing the arguments rejected the bail plea.
Earlier, a court of Special Judge Central had rejected Kazmi’s bail after which he forwarded the bail application to Supreme Court (SC).
Kazmi is likely to remain behind bars until the investigation is completed.
The court declared Faiz as ‘wanted’ and ordered that the complete challan of accused should be presented by August 18.
