ISLAMABAD: The government has submitted the complete suspension record of Additional Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Zafar Qureshi to the Supreme Court.
Earlier today (Friday), during the hearing of the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam case, the court had ordered the government to present Qureshi’s suspension record within an hour. The suspension orders had been approved by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on a summary sent from the Interior Ministry.
During the hearing, Attorney General of Pakistan (AG) Maulvi Anwarul Haq informed the court that the government had refused to reinstate Qureshi. He stated that reports of Interior Minister Rehman Malik giving “options” to Qureshi were baseless.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain observed that violation of court orders will not be tolerated.
The apex court has also summoned the Secretary Establishment, Interior Secretary and the acting D.G. FIA in court.
The hearing has been adjourned till June 18.
The government had earlier refused to reinstate Qureshi and submitted a reply to the Supreme Court in this regard. The Attorney General had responded to the court’s request, and said that Qureshi had violated the code of conduct and will, therefore, not be reinstated
